Engagement rate (ER) calculator
Find out how active your Instagram or TikTok audience is and compare the result with the norm.
How ER is calculated
Instagram: ER = (likes + comments + saves and shares) ÷ followers × 100%. Use average values over the last 9–12 posts.
TikTok: ER = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100%. On TikTok most views don't come from followers, so engagement is calculated from views.
ER benchmarks
- Instagram: under 1% low, 1–3% normal, 3–6% good, over 6% excellent.
- TikTok: under 3% low, 3–9% normal, over 9% high.
These are guidelines: small accounts usually have a higher ER and big ones a lower one. It's best to compare yourself with accounts of a similar size and topic.
How to raise engagement
Consistency, useful content, questions and polls, quick replies to comments. A new post benefits from an initial boost: likes, comments and Instagram saves, and for TikTok — likes й views.
Questions & answers
How is ER calculated on Instagram?
The sum of a post's likes, comments, saves and shares is divided by the number of followers and multiplied by 100. The calculator uses average values over recent posts.
How is ER calculated on TikTok?
On TikTok, engagement is usually calculated from views: reactions (likes, comments, shares) are divided by video views. That way the result doesn't depend on the follower count.
What ER is normal?
Instagram benchmarks: under 1% is low, 1–3% normal, 3–6% good, over 6% excellent. TikTok (by views): under 3% low, 3–9% normal, over 9% high. Small accounts usually have a higher ER.
How to raise engagement?
Post regularly, ask questions in your posts, reply to comments, create useful content people save. A small number of reactions and comments helps a new post get started.
