How to Get Verified on Instagram and Telegram

6 min read · оновлено 20.10.2026 15:38

A blue check next to a name is a sign that the platform has confirmed the account is authentic. Bloggers and brands alike ask how to get verified on Instagram and Telegram: with a check mark there are fewer fake copies and more trust. Here's what paths exist at the time of writing (October 2026), what really affects the decision and where people get scammed most often.

What the check mark means and why you need it

A check mark doesn't increase reach and doesn't affect distribution algorithms. Its practical value is different:

  • protection from impersonation: it's easier for people to tell the official account from a scam copy;
  • trust: for brands and public figures, it's a signal that it really is them writing;
  • support: the paid version from Meta includes access to customer support, which is useful if you're hacked or blocked.

Important: the check mark is given for confirming a person's or organization's identity, not for the number of followers.

Instagram check mark: two paths

1. Meta Verified, a paid subscription

Meta Verified is a subscription for Instagram and Facebook that gives a blue check after identity verification. Besides the badge, it includes protection from impersonating accounts and access to support. There is a separate option for businesses.

What's usually required:

  • age 18 or older;
  • a real name on the profile that matches your ID;
  • a profile photo showing your face;
  • an identity document;
  • two-factor authentication turned on;
  • an account that complies with the platform's rules and has a history of activity.

Availability and price depend on the country and may differ between the app and the web version. We don't give a specific amount for Ukraine because Meta changes its terms and its list of countries. To check, open Settings → Accounts Center → Meta Verified. If the section is there, it will show the current price in your currency. If it isn't, the subscription is not yet available in your region or for your account.

Note: Meta is also launching other paid subscriptions, and not all of them come with a check mark. Before paying, check exactly what the plan includes.

2. The free verification request

The classic way still exists: in your account settings ("Account type and tools" → "Request verification") you can apply for free. The criteria here are stricter, because the check mark is given for notability, not for payment.

Instagram assesses whether the account is:

  • authentic: it belongs to a real person, brand or organization;
  • unique: it's the only account of that person or company (except for language versions);
  • complete: a public profile with a photo, a bio and at least one post;
  • notable: the person or brand is mentioned in several independent media outlets. Paid and promotional publications usually don't count.

If you're rejected, you can submit a new request later. Prepare: collect links to media articles that mention you or your brand specifically, and update your profile. How to fill it out completely is covered in the article "Instagram profile setup".

Will buying followers help you get a check mark

No. The number of followers isn't one of the verification criteria, and buying an audience in no way guarantees a check mark, paid or free. Meta Verified confirms identity with a document, and the free request assesses media presence.

What's more, sudden growth and an inactive audience can work against you during a manual review. SMM services are appropriate for other tasks, such as keeping a new profile from looking empty, but not as a path to verification.

Telegram check mark

Official Telegram verification

Telegram verifies channels, groups, bots and accounts of well-known people, media, brands and organizations. There is no public "apply and get a check mark" form open to everyone: the platform confirms those who actually have a public identity that can be checked, for example verified pages on other major platforms or an official website.

Practical tips:

  • put your official website in the channel description, and a link to the channel on your website and other social networks. That makes it easier to confirm the channel is yours;
  • make sure the channel is public and active;
  • check the current requirements on the official verification page at telegram.org.

Third-party verification

Since 2025, Telegram has had third-party verification: recognized organizations can verify accounts and chats, and that organization's badge appears next to the name. It doesn't replace the official check mark but complements it. A regular channel owner doesn't apply to Telegram directly: first you have to pass a check by a verifying organization that takes part in the program.

Telegram Premium and Business are not verification

A common confusion: Telegram Premium does not give a check mark. The subscription unlocks other features: an emoji status next to your name, higher limits, faster downloads, voice message transcription. An emoji status may look like a badge, but it's just decoration that any subscriber can set.

Telegram's business features (working hours, address, quick replies, greeting messages, connecting a chatbot) are part of Premium and useful for sales, but they aren't verification either.

How not to fall for scammers

Offers like "a check mark for N hryvnias" regularly appear on social networks and in Telegram. It's almost always a scam:

  • nobody except the platform itself can issue an official check mark;
  • "Meta managers" in DMs and "Telegram support" in private messages are a classic hacking scheme;
  • never share your password, SMS codes or Telegram login codes.

If someone messages you with an "urgent verification request" threatening a ban, it's phishing. How to protect your account is covered in the article "Account safety".

What really helps a brand even without a check mark

Even without a badge, you can strengthen trust:

  • the same name and avatar on all social networks;
  • links to your website and from your website to your social networks;
  • regular content and replies to comments;
  • customer reviews and media mentions, which, by the way, you'll also need for the request.

For a Telegram channel, it also matters that posts don't look "empty": lively discussions, views, reactions. For a start, you can use Telegram services, with moderate speed and without the illusion that this will affect verification.

Questions & answers

How many followers do you need for a check mark on Instagram?

There's no minimum. For Meta Verified, what matters is confirming your identity with a document; for the free request, notability in independent media.

Is Meta Verified available in Ukraine?

Meta changes its list of countries and prices. Check in Accounts Center: if the Meta Verified section is there, it will show the current price; if not, the subscription isn't available to you yet.

Can you lose the check mark?

Yes. The paid check mark disappears if you cancel the subscription or change your name or photo without re-verification. Any check mark can be removed for rule violations.

Does Telegram Premium give a channel a check mark?

No. Premium gives an emoji status and extra features, but not official verification.

Can you buy verification from an intermediary?

Only the platform issues an official check mark. "Turnkey verification" offers are usually a scam or an attempt to gain access to your account.
