TikTok Trends: How to Find Them and Quickly Adapt Them to Your Niche

TikTok trends don't live long: a sound that is in every third video today will feel dated in two weeks. That is why a list of "current trends" is useless, while the skill of finding trends yourself and quickly adapting them to your topic always works. Here is where to look, how to tell a promising trend from one that is already fading, and how to shoot your own video while the wave is still going.
What a trend is on TikTok
A trend is a recurring element that many creators use at the same time. Most often it is:
- A sound: a song, a fragment of a track or someone else's voiceover.
- A format: a particular video structure, such as "expectation / reality", "POV", "a day in the life", "3 mistakes that…".
- A visual technique: a transition, an effect, a filter, editing to the beat.
- A topic or challenge: an event, a meme, a question everyone is answering.
- A hashtag around which a community gathers.
The algorithm doesn't give a bonus "for the trend" as such. But a familiar sound or format holds attention in the first seconds, and viewers who like the trend are more likely to watch such videos to the end. That is exactly what helps you get into recommendations.
Where to find TikTok trends
The For You feed
The simplest source is your own feed. But for it to show useful things, you have to "train" it:
- watch videos from your niche to the end and save them;
- tap "Not interested" on irrelevant ones;
- follow 20–30 active creators in your topic and related ones.
When you see the same sound or format from three or four different creators in one day, that is a signal.
The sound page
Tap the sound name at the bottom of a video. A page opens with the number of videos using it and examples. Look not only at the total number but also at freshness: if many of the top results are from the last few days, the sound is on the rise.
The sound library in the editor
When creating a video, open the sound picker: it has collections of popular and recommended tracks. This is a quick way to see what is being used right now without separate services. Business accounts have access to the commercial music library, and sounds from it can be used in ads and promotion.
TikTok Creative Center
Creative Center is a free TikTok tool for marketers (the Trends section at ads.tiktok.com/business/creativecenter). At the time of writing, you can browse popular hashtags, songs, creators and videos there with filters by country, period and industry. You don't need an ad account for this.
What is useful to look at:
- Songs: songs that are gaining popularity, with a trend chart. A sound with a rising chart is more valuable than one already at its peak.
- Hashtags: popular hashtags by industry, to understand what people in your niche are talking about.
- Top Ads: the most successful ads, which clearly show which formats and opening seconds work.
The set of filters and sections changes from time to time, so check what is available for your region specifically.
Search and the Discover tab
TikTok search suggests popular queries when you start typing a word. Enter your topic, such as "manicure", "renovation" or "coffee", and see which formats keep repeating at the top.
Other platforms
Many trends first appear in, or grow in parallel on, Reels and Shorts. If a format has exploded there, it is often already on TikTok or will be soon.
How to decide whether a trend is worth using
Before shooting, answer three questions:
- What stage is it at? Lots of fresh videos and few big creators means an early stage, the best moment. If the trend is already being parodied and mocked, it is fading.
- Can it be linked to your topic? If the connection is far-fetched, viewers will sense it's fake, and the video won't hold their attention.
- Is it safe for your brand? Some sounds or memes have a context that doesn't suit you. Watch a few videos and read the comments before using one.
If the answer to even one question is "no", skip it. There will be plenty of trends.
How to quickly adapt a trend to your niche
The best trend videos don't copy the original; they transfer its structure into their own context. A simple process:
- Break the trend into parts: the sound, the structure (what happens at the beginning, middle and end), the on-screen text, the visual technique.
- Keep what is recognizable: usually the sound and the structure.
- Replace the content with your own: instead of someone else's situation, a typical situation of your customer.
- Add value or relatability: viewers should either learn something or recognize themselves.
Examples of how one format works in different niches:
- The "expectation / reality" format: a coffee shop, "latte art on Pinterest / my first latte art"; a tutor, "what the student promised / what they did in a week".
- The "POV" format: a nail artist, "POV: a client shows a photo from Pinterest"; a shop, "POV: you're packing the 50th order of the day".
- A "transformation" sound: before / after a renovation, a cleanup, a haircut, a redesign.
Speed matters
A trend is most valuable in its first days. Keep a "stock of footage": a few clips of your process, product and team that you can quickly put over a new sound. Then it takes an hour, not a week, to go from a trend you found to a published video.
Technical details
- Use the original sound via the "Use this sound" button instead of recording music from a speaker: that way the video appears on the sound page and can get extra views from there.
- Volume: if you talk over a track, turn the music down so your words can be heard.
- On-screen text in the first 1–2 seconds explains what the video is about, even without sound.
- Hashtags: 3–5 relevant ones, covering the video topic, the niche and possibly the trend hashtag. Don't add dozens of popular hashtags unrelated to the video.
- Copyright: on business accounts and in ads, use sounds from the commercial library.
How to organize trend hunting so it doesn't take all day
Scrolling the feed for hours is not a strategy. It is better to set aside a separate short time for trends:
- 15–20 minutes a day on the For You feed, saving interesting videos to a separate "Trends" collection.
- Once a week: Creative Center and a search on your niche's topic to see the bigger picture.
- An ideas note: the sound, a link to an example, how to adapt it for yourself, a deadline. If you haven't managed to shoot it within a few days, cross it out: the trend has probably passed.
It also helps to follow the calendar: holidays, seasons, the start of the school year, major sports or cultural events. Similar trends appear around them every year, so you can prepare content in advance and then just add a current sound.
Trends don't replace your own style
If an account consists only of trends, people have no reason to follow you specifically. A good balance is some trend videos for reach and some of your own regular series: tips, case studies, answers to questions. Trends bring new viewers, and your series keep them. How to combine the two is covered in the article how to get into TikTok recommendations.
When a trend video doesn't get views
Sometimes the trend is right, but the views are stuck. What to check:
- whether you joined the trend too late;
- whether it is clear from the first second what the video is about;
- whether your own content got lost behind a copy of the original.
New accounts often lack initial activity: a video with zero reactions looks less convincing. On InstaHub you can order TikTok views or likes for a fresh video, by link and without a password. This doesn't replace quality content and doesn't guarantee recommendations, but it helps a good video not look empty. Use it in moderation and in natural proportions.
Questions & answers
Where can I see TikTok trends for free?
In the For You feed, on sound pages, in the editor's sound library and in TikTok Creative Center, which shows popular songs, hashtags and videos with a country filter.
How can I tell that a trend hasn't faded yet?
Open the sound page: if many of the first videos are fresh, from the last few days, and big creators haven't yet worn it out, the trend is on the rise.
Can a business account use any trending sound?
No. Business accounts and ads have access to the commercial music library, and it is better to choose sounds from it so as not to infringe copyright.
How many trend videos should I publish?
There is no fixed rule. A combination works well: some videos on trends for reach and some of your own series that explain why people should follow you.
